Last night we began right away with singing and worship. The kids have previously shown a large disinterest in singing and worship, but lately Holy Spirit has been slowly growing in them a desire to praise God. Our prayer is that they would continue to grow in their public demonstration of their worship – which is an indication of their inner, true worship.

After worship we split immediately into small groups to discuss what we covered last week. Matthew 6:19-21, laying up treasures on earth or in Heaven, and what that tells us about our hearts. Below are some points that the youth leaders used to guide their small group discussions. We focused on identifying certain things in our life that lay up treasure on Earth and why that is so. One of the biggest misconceptions that kept coming up was that “playing sports” or any extra-curricular activity was inherently storing up treasure on earth. We discussed how it is more our attitude and perspective that determines whether we store up treasure on earth than ‘what’ we do.

Our desire is always repentance, real encounter with God, and total transformation. We want to see the kids reaching full maturity in Christ and exploiting everything that Christ made available through his sacrifice (Ephesians 1:3). We join you in this prayer and I encourage you to heat up your prayers, believing God to answer (Isaiah 62:6-7)!

The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. 1 Timothy 1:5

  • What are some examples of treasure that I have laid up in my life?
    • What do I spend most of my time doing?
    • Is there one desire that always takes the driver seat?
    • What is the one thing that I would gladly sacrifice a meal to do?
  • How would you describe ‘where’ your heart is?
    • Why is that the case?
  • How do you store up treasure in Heaven?
    • It’s not just about what you do but also how you do it.
    • What is one thing you do that stores up treasure on Earth?
    • What is one attitude that you have that stores up treasure on Earth? Are you comfortable with doing/having these?
