The term zeitgeist means “spirit of the age”. Today, you can either follow the zeitgeist by believing what the world says is the right way to think and live, or you can follow the Spirit of Truth, who leads you to Jesus Christ, the way, the truth and the life. But you can’t follow both.
In the Light of the Lambs Children’s Ministry we have been studying the book of Genesis. We have observed that God’s word is powerful! He spoke the universe into existence in six literal days. God’s word is so powerful that it not only created everything we see, but God holds everything together by His word (Hebrews 1:3). Hebrews 11:3 says, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (See also Psalm 33:6.) What an awesome, all powerful, very good, faithful God we serve!
Have you noticed the intense antagonism to the word of God, especially to Genesis, active in the world today? Every major threat to your family, church, and society has its roots in the rebelling against God’s word. The spirit of the age says that evolution, abortion, homosexuality, and transgenderism are good and the Bible is evil (Isaiah 5:20), and, “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (Psalm 2:3). The Bible needs to be thrown off like shackles. Everything and anything is allowable, but believing in Jesus Christ is not permitted. This is Marxist ideology censoring and silencing the church in America. But all people are without excuse because God has revealed to everyone His existence and awesome power through His creation (Romans 1:18-22).
What does Genesis say about these major issues that the spirit of the age says are correct and moral?
Evolution – Charles Darwin’s false theory has influenced all of these other issues mentioned. It denies the Creator, which makes life meaningless, a product of random chance, with no life after death and no right or wrong. God’s word says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) (Genesis 1:26)
Abortion – Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, is indirectly responsible for over 50 million baby’s deaths in America. She was friends with the Nazi doctors who founded the race purification programs in Germany. She applied these Nazi ideas in the U.S. to “human weeds”, and “genetically inferior races”. These eugenics ideas have roots back to Darwinian evolution. But the word of God says that we are made in the image of God, and God knows us before we are born, and has a purpose for us. (Genesis 1:26; Jeremiah 1:5) God has “made of one blood all nations of men” (Acts 17:26).
Homosexuality – Pete Buttigeig, a democratic presidential candidate, blamed the Creator God for his gay lifestyle (Tweet to Mike Pence). This is blasphemous because he claims God is the originator of his sin. The word of God tells us that God created everything good, without sin (Genesis 1:31a). He made woman for man, and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24). The wrath of God is revealed against…men with men committing indecent acts (Romans 1:18,27).
Transgenderism – Bill Nye, “The [fake] Science Guy”, is teaching children (Netflix series Bill Nye Saves the World) that gender is a choice and not determined genetically by chromosomes. The word of God says, “God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; MALE and FEMALE He created them.” (Genesis 1:27, emphasis added)
Do not follow the zeitgeist, the spirit of the age that brainwashes the masses into blindly following Satan’s lies. Boldly stand for truth. “Silence makes cowards out of the best of men.” – Abraham Lincoln
Wake up church! Put on the armor of light! Proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ! Renew your mind with the word of God. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
