"Mona" came to CompassCare the day after she found out she is pregnant with her third child. She and her husband decided they only wanted two children, so she is looking into getting an abortion. She had complications with her previous pregnancies and is worried another child would negatively impact her job. "If it wasn't for my career and I didn't have difficult pregnancies, I would feel differently," she said. Mona watched quietly as her nurse performed the ultrasound exam. She closed her eyes and listened to the heartbeat of her six-week-old baby. When asked how she was feeling, she said, "Ok, I was just hoping the pregnancy wasn't viable." She took the ultrasound pictures but didn't want to schedule another appointment. Please pray that Mona would take some time to consider her decision. Pray that she would examine her true feelings about abortion and her maternal instincts would protect the life of this child.

UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (from CaringBridge 12/24): We’re two days into our 6 day round of chemo. These medicines are big—the kind I can’t think too deeply about without completely losing my composure. But Isla is doing well. She’s taking them like a champ—even if this is the easy part. We know most side effects take 7-10 days to develop, but we’re praising God for every second of laughing, joy, questioning, and tantrums. As we walk through the rest of this round, Isla will undergo two more spinal chemos (she had one today as well) and 10 more IV chemos (she’s already had 5 this round).
We’re praying specifically:
-for protection over her good cells, that they would be supernaturally saved from chemical attack
-minimal side effect from the high dose yesterday (no mouth sores)
-quick ANC recovery as it starts to fall post treatment
-comfort for our family as we spend these holidays apart—we miss our boy terribly… Thanksgiving, Christmas, my birthday, Isla’s birthday… we miss him. Thank you friends.

Please pray for the Lord's comfort and grace for my niece and her family, as her elder son (27 years old) was found dead a few days ago (apparent suicide). He had professed to being a Christian, but his lifestyle led family members to question his spiritual condition.

Please pray for Roseann Barstow, who has bronchitis, is weak, and on several medication. Pray for improved breathing and healing and peace. ------- A sister in Christ had a recent breast imaging exam and the radiologist found an unusual shadow on the mammogram. A repeat study is planned in four months. Pray for a good report and for the Lord's grace and peace over her.

UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (CaringBridge 12/21): Huge God win today! We’ve been praying for Isla to meet counts to be able to begin round three of chemo this week. It’s important in her aggressive protocol to move quickly through rounds, but her body has to recover first! Yesterday we came in to clinic for counts and she was right on the edge. Her ANC was fantastic (over 6000) but her platelets were borderline at 58k. They sent us home to be rechecked today, just to be sure before starting her on her first chemo (day -2 of round three, technically pre-round chemo). Today, her platelets are at 90k!!! That’s HUGE. A jump like that is unheard of for her. We are in constant awe of our Creator and how He cares for us. In all things giving thanks.
We have started her day -2 chemo in clinic and will be admitted Thursday to officially begin round three!
We ask you to pray with us specifically:
-strength for her body as she endures another rough week of medication (numerous doses are considered “lethal” and we ask for supernatural protection over her good cells)
-rest tonight and tomorrow
-wisdom for her oncologist and anesthesiologists as she goes under anesthesia every other day during this round
-continued favor that ministers to our medical team
Isla’s journey has been nothing short of a miracle - from finding the cancer almost immediately at onset to all of the wins (big and small) we’ve shared over the past 30 days. “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

UPDATE on Makhi: From his mother's emails it appears the Endocrinology team they saw around Thanksgiving determined that Makhi has a damaged pituitary gland, which has prevented him from growing normally. The plan is to return in February for an MRI and testing to see how damaged his pituitary gland is. Then if they think it’s worth it and has a chance of working, he will hopefully start growth hormones. But since he has no fat, they can’t do the daily shots like normal growth hormones. The FDA approved a once a week shot, but insurance will probably fight it because it’s so expensive. Thank you for praying for him!

UPDATE/PRAISE REPORT on Marilou B.: She has been home since Tuesday and reports she is doing well, having PT, eating and sleeping better, and believes her mood and mental clarity are better than they had been for quite a while. She's sure all the prayers for her have been a big reason why, and she's endeavoring to read God's word more and draw closer to Him. Praise the Lord! Thank you so much for praying!

"Jamila" has several grown children and is shocked to be pregnant again at her age. She came to CompassCare wanting information on abortion. Her ultrasound exam revealed an early pregnancy, but no heartbeat could be detected at this point. Jamila was tearful at the sight of her developing baby. She said her mind and heart are at odds, but insisted she must get an abortion. Her nurse shared the gospel with her, letting her know she does not have to walk through her situation alone. She declined the invitation to surrender her life to Christ. She then asked her nurse to recommend a local abortion provider. When her nurse reminded her of the agreement she signed at check-in stating CompassCare does not provide or refer for abortion, she ended the appointment and left. Pray Jamila's baby is protected from abortion and the seeds of the gospel planted in her heart take root and grow. ------- "Danielle" came to CompassCare wanting to know how far along she is in her pregnancy so she can choose her abortion method. Although she initially said she has to get an abortion, she vacillated throughout her appointment and mused aloud about "keeping the baby." When Danielle heard her baby's heartbeat, she felt drawn to him. However, she said she is still thinking abortion is best. Her nurse assured her she has time to consider her decision carefully. She took her ultrasound pictures and every brochure offered to her. When discussing the gospel, she said she believes in a higher power but is not ready to surrender her life to Christ. Her nurse is encouraged by Danielle making a return appointment. She writes, "May God do a work in her heart this week to change her mind." Please agree in prayer for this child's life to be saved from abortion.

UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (from 12/16 CaringBridge): Isla’s fever broke early afternoon yesterday (Wednesday). This morning she slept until almost 11 but she woke up renewed. We watched movies, made coffee for the nurses, and even went out in the hall and rode a tricycle around. Her counts were also up today! Her ANC was up to 198 from 0 for the last four days. This is HUGE and an answer to prayer. Her platelets continue to drop, but we are believing in prayer they they will be next to follow. Pray with us specifically:
-numbers to supernaturally increase and hit counts over the next 6 days to be able to begin round three of chemo on schedule (any time between now and the 22nd would be considered “on time” but we have confidence that she will start when God says she will and that will be in her best interest)
-continued protection over her body
-no bleeding
-no fevers
We know we are not alone. We are so thankful for you joining us in prayer and petition for our sweet girl. Every day of smiles is a gift I cannot even describe. God is making our difficult path bearable.
Further UPDATE/PRAISE REPORT: Got a surprise this morning (Friday)-we are going home for the weekend!! ANC was 554!!! Platelets were down, but they’re transfusing her now and will check levels Monday! Pray specifically:
-restful time home
-no fevers or bleeding
-counts to be ready for round three early next week!
