UPDATE: Marilou B. remains in the hospital, still not feeling well and unable to eat solid foods. She's been almost 2 weeks on antibiotics, and was told she'll need to keep taking them when she goes home, but she doesn't know when that will be, as they are awaiting results from a biopsy and other tests and procedures. Please continue to pray for her healing. Thank you.

"Janice" is a young woman building her career. She chose to keep her pregnancy a secret for about a month because she fears making the lifestyle changes needed to raise a child. Now that she has told the father of the baby and her mother about the pregnancy, she is trying to decide whether she will get an abortion or continue her pregnancy. They say they will support any choice she makes. Janice's mom came with her to the appointment and was present to see the ultrasound exam. They both reacted positively to the nine-week-old baby on the screen. After her mother left the room, Janice said, "I think my mom is more excited than I am." When her nurse shared the gospel, Janice said she is a Christian and will pray about her decision. She plans to return for another visit. Pray Janice's spirit is strengthened as she battles against the fleshly desire to choose her goals over the life of her child. Pray God protects this child and Janice commits her way to the Lord. -------- "Frannie" already had an abortion scheduled when she called CompassCare. Anxious to end her pregnancy quickly, she called CompassCare asking if she could get an abortion sooner. The scheduler explained CompassCare does not provide or refer for abortions but Frannie saw value in the services offered and came in. Frannie lamented the seeming unfairness of her situation. She took the "Plan B" pill based on her understanding of it as a contraceptive after having an encounter with a man she hardly knows. "I can't believe it didn't work. I can't believe I'm in this situation," she said. Although she seemed exasperated at first, she softened after the ultrasound exam. "I have a lot to think about," she mused. She plans to return for another appointment for test results and another ultrasound prior to her abortion appointment. When her nurse began a conversation about the gospel, Frannie dismissed it saying, "I've already decided that's not relevant." Her nurse respected her desire to move on, but assured her God loves her and cares about her situation. Pray God uses this situation to reorient Frannie to Himself. Pray her child is spared from abortion.

UPDATE: Marilou B. reports she started feeling and doing better earlier this week, PTL!, but the doctor wanted to do an intestinal biopsy today, since it's taking her so long to recover from the infection. (She's been in the hospital since Nov. 20.) Please pray for a good report, and that she'll be able to return home soon. Thank you!

UPDATE: Over the last 8 days we’ve experienced an overwhelming amount of answered prayer. Isla was laughing and playing and singing all day Tuesday. That is an answer to prayer. Her liver numbers improved dramatically, going from 1300+ on Sunday to 99. The power of prayer!

Today Isla will enter the second phase of her treatment with different types of chemotherapy. Over the next 5 days she will receive a combination of 2-3 of them every day in high doses, and every other day will also receive a dose via spinal tap. Stages two and three are the two most critical stages of her protocol. She will also have a bone marrow check today. That will allow Isla’s oncologist to gauge how effective the treatments have been thus far. He is not expecting remission, but we are standing in faith that it’s not too lofty of an ask. Regardless, though, with Burkitts Leukemia she will need to continue the full protocol even if she is in remission.

Please pray with us specifically:

-that Isla’s bone marrow would show remission or greatly reduced blasts (cancerous cells);

-protection over Isla’s little body as these big drugs flow through her veins;

-continued liver improvement and protection;

-rest and peace as we prepare mentally for the week ahead.

UPDATE/PRAISE REPORT: When "Sharon" first came to CompassCare, she felt she was an unfit mother and saw aborting her baby as a merciful act. She expressed a desire to be a mother someday, but felt she had personal work do to before she could successfully parent a child. After seeing her fourteen-week-old baby on the ultrasound screen, Sharon's thinking shifted. She surrendered her life to Christ when she heard the gospel. Her thoughts on abortion were not eliminated immediately: she said she needed more time. When Sharon returned for a fourth appointment, she excitedly reported that she has decided to continue her pregnancy and parent her child. She has the support of the father of the baby and her sister. She also plans to connect with a MotherCare mentor. Sharon was thrilled to see her baby's face during her ultrasound exam and took a printed picture home with her. Thanks be to God for His mercy and grace! Pray Sharon continues to grow in her relationship with Him.
