"Wynona" came to CompassCare for a pre-termination assessment, which includes an ultrasound exam, STI testing and options education. She says she plans to get an abortion although the father of the baby is unaware of this and wants her to carry to term. After seeing her seven-week-old baby on the ultrasound screen, she did express regret. "It's too bad I just can't do this right now." She was unwilling to consider adoption. When her nurse presented the gospel and asked her if she'd like to surrender control of her life to Christ, Wynona laughed out loud. Pray for Wynona. She said she might carry to term "if things were different" and took printed ultrasound pictures with her. Pray her heart is softened towards her baby and she does not get an abortion. ------- "Annie" is in her late teens and says she is "not in a good spot to have a baby." The father of the baby, her sister, and best friend have all given their support for her to get an abortion. She has chosen an abortionist to contact and plans to get an appointment as soon as possible. Viability could not be determined at this appointment and her nurse informed Annie that terminating an unconfirmed pregnancy could subject her to unnecessary health risks. Annie did not see this information as important and said she plans to get an abortion as soon as she can get an appointment. She did, however, schedule a return appointment at CompassCare just in case she cannot get in to the abortionist within the week. Pray Annie slows down and considers the weight of the decision she is making. Pray she considers the information she received and does not move forward with her abortion plans.

"Julia" is a single mom in her second trimester. She explained she's been stressed about the pregnancy for two reasons: the instability of her relationship with the father of the baby and the high risk nature of her pregnancy. Having recently been hospitalized for complications, she said she needs to get an abortion. After the ultrasound, she wondered if the baby might be a boy. "It might not be a bad time to have a baby," she thought aloud. Her nurse encouraged her to take time to make this important decision. Julia allowed her nurse to pray for her. Please pray God would reveal Himself to Julia in a personal way and she would have the courage to continue this pregnancy. -------- "Casey" is currently considering abortion, but she wanted to get free testing and pregnancy confirmation from a trusted provider. Having just obtained a restraining order against the father of the baby (who is also the father of her young son), Casey said she cannot bear the idea of remaining connected to her abuser or complicating a child's life with the reality of her circumstances. She's been cut off from most of her other relationships as a result of the controlling nature of her ex and is working to rebuild her life. Viability could not be confirmed, so Casey plans to return for another appointment. She said she had an abortion in the past and regrets needing to get another one. She is worried she may feel guilty in the future. Pray for Casey, who grew up in the Catholic church but admits to having lost connection with God. Pray God uses this moment to reorient her to Him. ------- "Annie" is a single mother considering abortion due to not being in a committed relationship with the father of the baby. She lives with family members but does not feel confident about parenting a second child. She feels she might need to get an abortion, but is concerned she will suffer negative mental health effects afterwards. Viability was not confirmed, so Annie plans to return for another appointment. Annie declined the invitation to receive salvation. Pray the seeds of the gospel take root and grow, transforming Annie from the inside out. ------- "Christine" is a young mother of two children. She is upset with herself for "getting in this situation again." She is raising one of her children and placed the other in an adoptive family. "I'm a Christian," she said. "I can't believe I've been thinking about abortion." Abortion isn't the only form of lethal thought Christine has been battling; suicidal ideation has plagued her mind in recent months. "I don't know where I'd be without God's help," she commented. Seeing her baby on the ultrasound screen caused her to pause and reflect. Please pray God reveals Himself to Christine and reminds her how much He loves her. Pray He directs her path and gives her the courage to continue this pregnancy. ------- "Jada" is a young married mother raising one child. She and her husband came to the U.S. as refugees and work hard to support their family. The news of this pregnancy comes just as they planned to travel to their country of origin for a visit before buying a home here to lay down roots. Jada says she does not want to be sick while traveling and has an abortion scheduled before her trip. "It's not a good time to be pregnant," she said. Viability could not be confirmed at this appointment. Pray Jada has a change of heart towards her preborn child and does not follow through on her abortion appointment. -------- "Mya" recently found out she is pregnant for the first time. The father of the baby is excited and wants her to carry to term, but she is considering abortion. Mya feels her situation is not ideal as she lives with her mom and does not see a future in her relationship with the father of the baby. After hearing the baby's heartbeat, Mya seemed affected and stared at the printed ultrasound picture. Her nurse shared about God's love and sovereignty over her current situation. Mya said she would pray about her decision. Pray God silences all of Mya's fears and she has the courage to continue her pregnancy.

UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (from Caring Bridge 1/13): We’re halfway through round four—two more full days ahead. Wednesday, Isla's birthday, was amazing. She felt great for the majority of the day. She played and laughed and danced her heart out. Today she was a bit less chipper, and this afternoon she threw a 103 fever. One of the chemo infusions she’s on can cause unexplained high fevers. Though expected, it is still a bummer to watch her feel so crummy mid-round. As we near our scans (which will determine whether any additional treatment is needed beyond her protocol) we are confident that God walks before us. He is good, all the time. For His glory she will be healed. Pray with us specifically:

-no more chemo fevers and that Isla would feel strong and energized

-no additional chemo complications or side effects

-quick recovery after this round

-protection over Isla's body and cells

-that we’d be able to have sweet family time all together before round 5

-peace and strengthened faith and hope as we continue along this tiresome road

-protection from the COVID surge our area and hospital are experienci
