UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (from Caring Bridge 1/22): After a whirlwind morning we are being admitted and heading back up to the oncology floor. After a restless night of stomach pain, we headed to the ER this morning. Her first set of blood counts came back critically low, to the point of emergency transfusion. A second panel showed slightly higher numbers, which was a relief to us. She received half a unit of blood and is already beginning to feel a bit better. She will receive platelets upstairs once we are settled in a room. But her stomach pain has continued, so the ordering doctor wanted to do some imaging. After X-rays, a CT scan and an ultrasound I am humbled to say that God is so good, all the time. Her X-ray showed fullness but nothing abnormal, her CT showed an inflamed colon, but nothing else notable, and her ultrasound showed no notable complications. For now, they want to keep her on clear liquids and watch her colon, hoping it will reduce as her counts begin to recover. We are so thankful to be carried through this storm. Even in the wake of the unknown, we are known by the creator of the universe who holds sweet Isla in His hands. Thank you for covering and continuing to cover us in prayer.

UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (from CaringBridge 1/20): THANK YOU for praying with us that we would make it to our clinic appointment today without complication. We made it! Her labs today were ok, but she’s still on the down trend, unfortunately, which means she hasn’t bottomed out yet (which means we’re still on the “wait and see” track). Her ANC has gone down dramatically, making her very high risk for infection or sickness, but her hemoglobin and platelets were still holding. We will go back Sunday morning for labs again and a transfusion if needed. (We’re hoping it’s needed; that would mean she bottomed out and we will be on the upward climb again from there.) Now, we just try to do everything in our power to keep her healthy and safe, even though we know we can’t control everything. BUT, we’re excited to have a few more days HOME together as a family! Our prayer right now is that she stays feeling good and healthy, no fevers. God has been so, so good to us throughout this journey. We have been so humbled and blessed.

Pray with us specifically:

- That Isla remains healthy and happy and we are able to stay home as a family until Sunday (that means NO fevers or complications)

- That her body is strengthened in its healing between these rounds

- That the cancer is GONE from every part of her body

Thank you, friends!

"Jillian" is in her late teens and pregnant with her second child. She told her nurse she has no regrets about having her first child while still in high school; she loves her and is so glad she has her. However, two children seems overwhelming. She told her nurse she is considering abortion, but said, "It would be hard...there would be long-term effects." The father of the baby says he "supports either choice." Viability could not be confirmed at this appointment, so she plans to return for another ultrasound. When her nurse shared the gospel, Jillian said she has already surrendered her life to Christ. Pray Jillian's fear is transformed into confidence and she chooses to continue her pregnancy. ------- UPDATES: "Mya" (lives w/ her mom) returned for a follow-up appointment but refused another ultrasound. She said she discussed her situation with her mom, who told her, "It's your decision." The father of the baby has not been supportive, so Mya stopped communicating with him. "I have an abortion scheduled next week," she told her nurse. Please keep praying Mya would have a change of heart and not go to her abortion appointment. Pray God would grant her the courage to continue her pregnancy. -------- "Annie" lives with family members who support her and her child, but the news of another pregnancy filled her with fear. Without a meaningful, committed relationship with the father of the baby, she doubted she could shoulder the responsibility of a second child, but she admitted to feeling concerned about the long term impact abortion would have on her mental health. Viability could not be confirmed at her first appointment.

When she returned, Annie said she had made up her mind to continue her pregnancy. She could not bring herself to get an abortion. The second ultrasound exam held a surprise: two heartbeats! Annie found out she is pregnant with twins. Praise God for sparing the lives of these two children! Annie plans to stay in touch with her CompassCare nurse and has a prenatal appointment scheduled for this week. Please continue to pray for Annie as she prepares for life parenting three children.
