UPDATE on Isla McAlpin (CaringBridge, 1/11): And just like that, we’ve arrived at our next challenge. Round four begins today. I’d be lying if I said that every new round wasn’t accompanied by new anxiety and fear. New drugs. New side effects. New risks. New unknowns. Over the next five days Isla will be receiving four chemotherapy drugs, administered for 20 hours per day. That feels big. In the midst, I cling to this verse: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 I’ve found that thanks brings peace. I give thanks for protection. I give thanks for healing. I give thanks to a God that never left our side. In the fire he has sustained us. I give thanks for our sweet girl—for her fight and her laugh and her hope. I give thanks for the miracles and mercy we’ve experienced this far. Thanks reminds me that God is good—all the time. So friends, give thanks with me. And, please, join us in prayer for our sweet girl. Pray with us specifically:
-protection over her body as these medications run through her veins
-wisdom for our medical team
-peace and trust for us in this process—even when that feels Impossible
-that Isla would not experience any adverse reactions to these new medications
-protection as her body recovers
-continued healing over any lingering infections

UPDATES: Marilou B. reports she was finally able to get out to get her urine tested, and she is now on an antibiotic (again) for an infection and her back is feeling better. PTL! However, she is again distressed and anxious about her living conditions (she believes she smells drugs), and needs prayer for the Lord's protection and peace. ------- My daughter-in-law Jennifer & son Kory, although "not 100% yet", are feeling and doing better, PTL!, and were able to go to the store and to church over the weekend. They appreciate your prayers on their behalf!
