Join us Wednesday, April 30 at 7:00 PM for an evening of hymns!

We recently caught up with Koinonia worship team members Abigail Cook and Ilya Fedotov to talk about why we sing worship songs, what happens in our hearts when we sing praises to God, and how it blesses them to see the congregation worshipping together.

“When we sing in worship on Sunday, it has a way of focusing our minds on God and preparing our hearts to receive the message,” Abi says. “The things that we are singing are deep spiritual truths that speak very deeply to our souls, to our hearts, to our inner man. It’s like we’re reminding each other the things that we’re singing, of the goodness and faithfulness of God.”

“When we sing the truth, it works it into our hearts,” adds Ilya. “It also helps us to receive something that sometimes hard to process or receive, like God’s love.”

“The thing that has blessed me the most is when I look out at the congregation and I see my brothers and sisters in Christ with their arms raised, their their heads raised to God, and just praising him. What’s really special about church is that we come and we are pursuing the same thing together, and we’re coming from all different life experiences, different testimonies and different personalities, yet we are all united in this one thing – our love for God and our desire to seek him and to know him.”

“We’re not just consumers, we’re participants. We’re all in this together. It makes us feel like we’re part of something bigger than ourselves.”
