Concert Postponed
We will let you know when it is rescheduled.
Where do you stand when everything else feels unstable? That’s the theme of Standing on the Rock, a free concert featuring original music by Zalina Fedotov and performed by a small ensemble of musicians, 6 PM Saturday, February 7 at Koinonia Fellowship, 500 Main Street, East Rochester.
The concert will include a mix of original songs, some familiar and some new. “I didn’t pick them as ‘greatest hits,’” Zalina says. “I picked songs that felt right for this moment.”
“One of the songs is called Standing on the Rock. That became the theme of the evening. We’re also doing a song in Russian called On the High Rock. Even if you don’t understand the language, the meaning comes through, hopefully. Music carries it.”
This concert is a stand-alone concert of songs connected to a larger work Zalina is developing—a cantata that traces the biblical story from creation to Christ.
“We’re taking everything from creation, and through the eleven movements of the cantata, we arrive not just at the birth of Christ, but at an understanding of why it had to be that way.”
While the full cantata will be presented next year, this evening offers a window into the heart of that project. “Some moments are exhilarating, some are unsettling, some are tragic,” she says, “It’s a roller coaster—and the theology is carried along inside that. You absorb the truth with the music.”
The concert is free, but we ask that you RSVP in advance to help us plan seating.
“We’re doing this so we don’t have to turn anyone away,” Zalina said.
