A Message to Single Moms
from Carol Hoppe, Single Moms Ministry
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
As I was reading my Bible this morning, words began jumping out at me… and I immediately thought of you…yes you!
I saw the word “poor” and it reminded me how many of you struggle each day just to put food on the table.
I saw “brokenhearted” and felt the pain and sorrow in each and every broken heart.
I saw “captives” and realized how many of you feel imprisoned in the particular situation you’re in today.
I saw “those who are bound” and felt the chains of despair so many of you desperately want to break free from.
I saw the word “mourn” and could see the heartache that never seems to go away, as you remember those loved ones whose lives were cut way too short.
I saw the word “ashes” and realized that many of you feel as though your lives, your situations, are just that – a pile of rubble, a pile of ashes.
And the word “heaviness” – that weight that’s dragged around every moment of every day.
Yes, I saw these words and again, I thought of you! And I grieved for you, I mourned for you, I prayed for you.
And then it happened. The other words on the page began to emerge! And I not only saw you again, but I saw hope! A hope that you – apart from the world – can have, can cling to, can be assured of!
The hope of the good tidings that are preached to the poor! And the results of the good tidings? My eyes were suddenly opened to the beautiful promises attached to the hope!
The promise that He will heal the brokenhearted!
…that He will proclaim liberty/freedom to the captives!
…that He will open the prison to those who are bound!
…that He will comfort & console all who mourn!
And those ashes? He will give beauty for those ashes!
As well as oil of joy for the mourning!
And the promise of a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness!
Why??? So that you may be called trees of righteousness! The planting of the Lord!
Why??? So that He may be glorified in each and every one of your lives!
Imagine that. A beautiful garden filled with hope, joy and freedom in Him!
So be encouraged as you look to Him and sit at His feet in the middle of His beautiful garden!
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
