The Lord Jesus Christ IS the gospel. The gospel is more than some thing, it is some One. Surrounded by a multitude of people who were buckling under the bondage of legalism and man-made rules and rituals in order to get right with God, Jesus proclaimed the gospel: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Like a refreshing breeze of cool air after a hot day, these words of Jesus gave a message of hope and life. Though the proclamation was given to all, the only ones who would have responded were those who were burdened and heavy laden with the guilt and condemnation of their sin.

Does the bible teach universal salvation? Our study today clearly reveals that not everybody is going to heaven. We see today that the people who are going to heaven are identified as overcomers. Who is an overcomer? “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:4,5) What does it mean to “believe” that Jesus is The Son of God?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is THE proof that God loves us. When circumstances and long seasons of “unanswered prayer” confront us, we tend to doubt the love of God. For those who have ears to hear, never allow the certainty of the love of God in the gospel cause you to misinterpret the mysteries of life here on earth.

Their love for The Lord Jesus Christ was no longer the blazing center behind all that they did. Jesus tells them that if they did not remember where they had fallen from, repent of their sin and return to that place of doing all that they did because they loved Him, He would remove His presence. Beloved, The Lord of Glory knows what we do and why we do it. May we hear what The Spirit saith unto the churches.

The setting of our Lord’s Supper message for today is before the throne of God in heaven. The apostle John has been transported by The Spirit into heaven where he sees and writes about things that are simply glorious! He sees the resurrected, glorified, and ascended Jesus in heaven. He sees Him as both as a conquering Lion and a slain Lamb. Jesus has prevailed to open that seven-sealed book. Scripture records that He is full of the power and wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:20).

In an age when people define themselves by their wealth and possessions, Jesus' words are hard to hear. Self-denial simply is not a popular message in our super-size, Big Gulp culture. In following Jesus, we begin by letting go of all those things that place a prior hold on our affections. Relationships, possessions, privilege, position, and ease give way to God's call.

The Lord’s Supper is the time when the church is to remember the sacrifice that Jesus paid for our sin. No words could ever possibly describe the agony and suffering that Jesus experienced from the Garden of Gethsemane to the cross on Calvary. This plan of God to save sinners was not an afterthought.
